(Querist) 27 January 2016 This query is : Resolved
if a girl is a hindu and wants to marry amuslim boy, does it essential for her to convert herself into muslim region? or they can marry under special marriage act? do such inter religion marriages have validity under indian laws? is nikah must for marriages?

Anirudh (Expert) 27 January 2016
Whether to convert to another religion or not depends upon as to what both of you agree to. But there is no compulsion that one has to necessarily get converted into another religion to get married.

But the only limitation is that no marriage can take place between two persons under Hindu Marriage Act, unless both happen to be Hindus.

Similarly, no marriage can take place between two persons under Muslim law, unless both happen to be Muslims.

However, there is no such restriction under the Special Marriage Act, where person of different religions can marry without the need for conversion.
