In India Prisons Act defines a Prison. It includes jail also. There is no definition of jail.

Thank U Palnitkar VV Sir

But sir one more query.

Sir i have a problem that i am staying in Bombay (state of maharashtra) so which prison act is applicable whether prsion act, 1900 or prison act, 1894.

Thanks
PALNITKAR V.V. (Expert) 11 June 2011
Prisons Act is of 1894. Act of 1900 is Prisoners Act and it is local Act of Punjab. So 1894 Act is applicable in Maharashtra
