Immediately submit complaint of evasion to the PF office before the BOD of old company diasppear. As far as merger is concerned you have been given wrong advise to withdraw. Yoyu were entitled to get it transferred to new a/c and continue adding the past period as pensionable.

If you are continuing with the new company there is no need to withdraw the PF balances and close the PF a/c. The same account can be continued with the new employer. You can check the correct position with the concerned authorities (PF authorities.)

Apply for correction of the records through your x employer with necessary proof of the correct name. There should not be any difficulty in getting the EPF records corrected.
