Can an unregistered society receive donations ?

(Querist) 04 March 2013 This query is : Resolved

Hello Im running an Unregistered Society (of Law Students). We are going to conduct a Seminar/ Fest / Event for which we will seek sponsorships and donations from business establishments so that we can reimburse the cost of Auditorium / refreshments etc. Also we will be selling entry passes for the same.

So my question can we do that ? Are there any legal implications for the same ?

Devajyoti Barman (Expert) 05 March 2013
If the same is not profit making body or the seminar is one off incident then there is no such legal implications.

Yes! Right! It may go on cost basis. But if it has to go again and again, registration would be a better thing to decide.
