Hi, Iam Dharmendra and working in a reputed Public limited company. I had submitted rent receipt as proof for Income tax rebate. But my company forced to do rent agreement and submit. I had done rent agreement for 11months from Kolkata (where I am residing) but didn't notified it because it is not mandatory. Now on this base they again rejected my proof.
Please suggest what to earlier they forcing to do rent agreement & now notary which are not required as per my knowledge?

rent agreement is required to be registered even if it is for 11 months in maharshtra . if agreement is not registered it should have been notarised at least .

If the registered or notarized rent agreement is required in your state, it should be submitted to your department accordingly.
If your department is not agreeing on providing the relief in TDS on rent paid, claim the same in your return.

Since the employer can be held responsible for correctness of rebate allowed to the employee on rent paid, he is quite justified to get satisfied himself with his desired proof before allowing rebate. So, if the employer has not accepted the existing rent agreement, you may better enter in to a fresh agreement with the landlord and submit the same. If the employer does not allow you rebate in tax on account of rent paid by you, the refund of excess tax deducted may be claimed from the Assessing Officer through IT Return.
