Change of religion

(Querist) 09 May 2015 This query is : Resolved
Sir,
I am a 28 years old person living in Delhi nearby area and working in a reputed company in accounts department. I live with my changed identity. I belong to kanjar caste. In my whole life I never got respect from any person to whom I told my reality. I even could not get completed my education due to this caste. We have very small village in UP where only our caste people live and marriage occurs within our own caste within village. Rules of marriage are similar to muslim (except real brother sister). We have a very small population around 5000 people, there may be other people in other part of country but marriage and communication is not there with them. My whole village is disturbed due to this problem. We cannot grow like normal person due to this caste.

I am thinking of converting to Buddhism along with some my village people.

I have read about ambedkar’s conversion but I don’t know what is the situation of the people who converted to Buddhism along with ambedkar.

Please advise regarding following:
1. Should I convert or not?
2. Does change of religion will change our and our future generation life?
3. What are the pros and consequence of conversion?

your query is not legal.

I decide not to express any view though I have, simply because the question not related to legal issue need not be discussed on legal forum

Religion is your belief. No body can comment on it. Caste, in which we born cannot be changed though because of the under privileged you might be facing some problem. But now you came out of your village and working in Delhi. There will be many people who do not treat caste as a bar for marriage. You have to keep up your own dignity by your behaviour, not by the caste in which you took birth. However, as experts advised you, it is for you to take decisions. It is not a legal problem.

Changing the religion and professing faith in other religion is the right of every citizen of he country. Nothing will legally stop you from doing so, if you want to go ahead, proceed.
