Defamation case

Dear Madam/Sirs,
One of my relative purchased a second hand car from someone through a broker. The broker and my relative both had some problem about brokerage.
My relative parked the car in our society premises on my car parking space. The said broker misleading the security guards at gate pretending as a policeman entered our society premises on a motorcycle.
He without informing me gathered crowd from our society near the car parked in my garage and falsely told the crowd alleging that there is some problem with this car and he is going to bring some more people from police to confiscate this car. Some body informed me about this later only after he had already left.
Can I file a case of defamation or any other against this erring Broker and claim damages from him.

yes you can filed defemation suit or in criminal case for defemation too u/s 499 IPC
