Hi
I am from Kolkata and I rent out one room of mine for a very short terms (maximum three nights per guests) to foreign tourists. They book the place online as well as pay online. I would like to know if it is legal here in West Bengal/Kolkata or I would need to obtain some kind of permission or license for that? If I need a permission/license, whom/where should I contact?

Yes, you have to apply for Trade license. You will need Police License from Kolkata Police as well.

This is commercial activity necessary permission and licenses from police, taxation department and Corporation are required.

Yes, you have to obtain permission from police department firstly for doing this business involving foreign guests and have to maintain proper records of all the guests visited or contacted and should be made available to the law enforcing authority periodically, besides the trading activities formalities to be observed.
