Hello there,
I am owner of website www.starsclub.co and want to publish entertainment news on my website. My question is what is the legal procedure for doing so?? Do i have to obtain some kind of rights or license or can I publish it without it? Secondly I would also like to know what will be the jurisdiction of my website. Whether it will be the location provided while registering domain, or where its servers are situated?

Your problem attracts provisions of the intellectual property rights. Untill proper referencing of the real source of origin/ author of the news is given on your website that would not cause any problem. If that is a copyrighted item, you will have to take specific prior permission of the author/ publisher for publishing that along with the reference of your permission to that.
Locational address of the owner of the site, registered address and the place of domain registration can be the legal jurisdiction.

Need detailed discussion to reply properly to your query. If you provide news items, then prior permission from Govt. of India is require.

Thanks for your quick replies. I dont have any reporter or such. I will just google the news and post it on my website in my own words...Does that require any permission?? If so then can u elaborate its procedure?
Warm regards, Sumit

Then you have to give credit of the source of news at the bottom of the post for which no separate permission is required.

You would need to avoid plagiarism even in redrafting news in your own language. But still source of origin will have to be indicated by you.

Thanks for your replies... I got to know from various sources that for publishing news i have to obtain broadcasting rights in a similar way newspapers or media channels on tv obtain...Is it so? Also I have read articles on internet which states that giving source of website doesnt mean that copyright cases cant be filed against you...If u do not have permission from particular website, even if u give credit of the source they may sue u.. Please guide

If you are publishing news as you as original source you need to take permission from Press Council of India. But if the source is someone else you need to take permission from that person.

Take permission / execute agreement / authority from the concerned news agency providing news originally.
