Only after enrollment as an Advocate with the Bar Council one will be permitted to sit in AIBE.
Since you are employed as a Professor, you will not be able to get enrollment while in employment.
Being a Professor you don't require any further guidance.

Dear Expert, You could become member of bar council of your state and appear for Exams.Once the Results comes you could submit a Letter to Council if you want to continue the Job or you could Practice. Discuss with your bar council and Proceed.I advise you to Complete the Exam and Keep your self eligible for Practice.Meet your State BCI.

Dear Ms. Mehta
please go through the Advocates(Right to take up law teaching) rules, 1979.
If you are under come under the rules, scenario would be different.

Dear Mr.Shah,
Please appreciate that the querist who is a Prof. wants to know whether he has to resign before sitting for AIBE.
He is not asking whether an Advocate can take up teaching job.

So obviously someone is misguiding. The Prof.is intelligent enough to know. Just because it is white a chalk cannot become cheese.

As rightly observed by expert Mr. Anirudh, the author is a professor, he is seeking clarification on that line, he has not stated whether he teaches law or some other subject.
