Dear All expert,
I have admitted my mother in a private hospital at Kolkata for a sergery. She has gone for the sergery through mediclaim. Before the admission of my mother the hospital team had told me that the total expenditure for the surgery would be arround Rs 97000/-. But after the sergery yesterday they told me that the bill has been increased to Rs 1,52,000/-. When I asked them about how come this huge bill can be increased? They said some medical equipment has been put inside the body of my mother which I cant see now. Whether it is true I dont know. Even at the time of sergery they never told me about that addition sergical equipment. They said it was unexpected but thease equipment has been put in the body of the patient.
Now my question to all the gentlemen that can I get the information through RTI act that what is their actual cost for the OT charge, surgeon charge, other medical expenditure etc. After getting the information through RTI, can I file a court case against them? Pls advise .......
Because this was a very minor sergery but they are charging Rs 1,50,000/- for that.

Dear Siddharth,
As a matter of fact you are lawfully entitled to ask and get the full case details from the Hospital and before doing any procedure the Hospital should have taken your consent in writing. There is a settlement mechanism at place through the via media of Insurance Claim Agents who will negotiate and get settled the exhorbitant rates or in the alternate put the Hospital under notice and file a consumer complaint.
Best Regards
