Working hours

(Querist) 23 November 2012 This query is : Resolved 
we are working in kerala education department as Night Watchmen. Our working time is 4.30 pm to next day 9.30am. we only getting one weekly off and 15 days holday off for an year. No other benefits are given to us salary scale is same as Last Grade Servents. There is any scope for a benefit in working time or salary ?

17 hours a day is too much .you cant tbe forced to work for 17 hours as watchmen. contact a local labour lawyer .

Too long a working hours.
Not legal.
There should be a shift system, and more guards.

You should give a legal notice and thereafter move to Lobour Court under the provisions of Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 according to which you cannot be forced to work for more than 9 hours a day which includes one complete hour for rest.
