Practicing as lawer in Mumbai. Urgent!

(Querist) 05 February 2011 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sirs,

one of my friend is Advocate having enrollment(Sanad) with the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh. Now he wants to pursue his practice in Mumbai i.e. before the High Court of Maharashtra. Is he require to take additional membership of Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa?
R.Ramachandran (Expert) 05 February 2011
Dear Siddhartha,
I do not know why you have to say that the query is concerning your friend, while it appears to be your own case.
In any case, if your friend is an Advocate, he ought to have read the Advocates Act and consequently known by this time, that if an Advocate registered with one Bar wants to practice permanently at another Bar (not one or two appearances) then he has to apply for transfer of his enrolment to the new Bar. There is no requirement for additional enrolment.
