Income tax summons

I received a summons from Income Tax department to attend before the officer within a week & furnish all income documents since 2008.Unfortunately,I am now in Middle east working here since 2012.So,what should I do now?Please advise...

You can reply the IT office requesting him to grant the adjournment showing your inability to attend on the fixed date.

seek adjournment on grounds that at present you are working abroad and it is not possible to attend at such short notice

You can ask your representative (may be a CA or taxation lawyer) to represent your case on the summoned date and get an adjournment for the reasons stated or you can directly write to the officer who summoned you to his official address giving the reasons for your inability to attend the hearing and seek adjornment.

Appoint/authorise a local tax practitioner and ask him/her to appear before the authorities.
