Respected Sir's
I am living in a society of 168 members situated in Dombivli, Thane, Maharashtra. I have requested to committee to provide details which i require for ex. Cash Book, Bank Book, Major repair funds, etc vide written letter. As committee not provided any information about expenditure and spending thousands of rupees without any quotations or quotations of their favour. Committee reverted me through letter today that they are providing me hard copies at a cost of Rs.5/- per page. My question is, Is Committee have a right to choose a mode of information like soft copy / hard copy even applicant requested for soft copy? Committee till today not provided minutes of AGM held in Sep,19, which also i demanded through my letter, can they also charged for that? How can I check books of accounts if law is in the favour of committee? Can general body reduce the amount of per page Rs.5/- in next meeting?

You should file an appeal before the Registrar of Cooperative Housing of your area and should seek the said information even without payment of a single penny as the charging of over-money is nothing but a denial of lawful information to the applicant.

Complain against the committee to the Deputy Registrar of coop.housing societies of your district.

Thanks for revert from the experts, I seek the information from committee as from the last two years not a single information they are provided to the members, spending money, no any minutes of the AGM held in sep,19 is provided. Applicant requested committee to provide soft copy for saving time,money and paper and which is also possible to committee to provide the same. Committee send me letter, because committee knows well that no any member pay high charge of Rs.5/- per page. We are paying Rs.3.5 maintenance per month without having any facility. So I requested to the experts to revert my query.

You can demand to conduct AGM and produce all orignal vouchers etc., for Committee to inspect. You can mobilize support of other members to bring pressure on them including approaching the DR as advised by experts above. If money to be paid is less better pay to unearth information so that future expenses are controlled.

Furnishing the copies at a cost is the decision taken in a general body meeting, which cannot be challenged at this stage.
However if you feel that this act of the society is unlawful then you may give a complaint about it to the registrar of societies.
