Is giving another psu exam illegal while working in a psu in probation period?

I am currently working as Probationary Officer in Allahabad bank from last 1.5 years and qualified RBI pre exam. Now, i have mains exam on 28 april,2012 and i applied leave in allahabad bank for giving the exam. Chief Manager called and replied that you cant give exam in probation period(2 years) and now disciplinary action will be taken if you give the exam. I am really scared and confused. Please help...

Is this a term in your appointment letter? If not then you are not liable to follow any additional term told to you which is against your interest.
You have very little time. Leave is not a right of an employee but your management cannot deny to grant leave on the ground told to you. If possible, go to court and get injunction order against any proposed disciplinary action on the ground as threatened otherwise wait for good time. There is high risk in getting injunction in this very short period.

Right of profession and avocation is a fundamental right. Present employer cannot restrain you from appearing for the examination. If there is a condition in your appointment order, it is binding on you; yet you can agitate in court of law.
