If anyone wants to prepare his/her will is it compulsory to be registered by him/her or it is valid in unregistered form also?

no it is not compulsory , but it is advisable to do so.

I do agree, there is no provision that will has to be registered, it can be executed on white paper with proper stamp duty affixed.
In the event of any dispute or someone challenge the unregistered will then it become problem.
It is advisable to get it register at Sub-Registrar office.

Both uregd., and regd., will can be challenged. Even it is unregd., it has got value.

I agree with experts. The will is not required to be registered. But in order to avoid future disputes, it better to get it registered. However, at the same time, I also agree with Mr. Rajoo, both registered and unregistered will can be challenged.

I do also agree that registered WILL can be challenged, but registered documents will give more legal whiteage and valid in the eye of law, Court at ultimately rely on registered documents and no courts shall reject the contents of registered documents.

Registration is purely optional.
