Sirs,
My father, 84, passed away in June 2021. We got our legal heir certificate yesterday. In that, for my mother, 81, (legal wife) marital status is mentioned as "married". Is that correct or should it be "widow".
Will status "married" be misinterpreted as re-married..??

Legal Heirship Certificate is a certificate that shows who are the legal heirs by their names and other essential details, necessary for clearly identifying them by anyone.
What should have been shown is the relation they have with the deceased, so as to make it clear that they belong to the category of legal heirs, by anyone who uses it for any purpose.
If it includes some other unnecessary details, it doesn’t make any material difference at all, as it cannot be used to prove any other thing such as the marriage status etc relating to the legal heirs.
Therefore, it seems it is better to ignore it.
But if you want a correction, you can approach the department. Since it involves gazette notification etc by the revenue department head, it would be a laborious process.
