What is the amount of stamp duty payable for registering the property,
How can i find out if there is any encumberance existing or the property is being transferred in bad faith.

In Chennai, you need to pay a stamp duty of 8 % and Registration Fee of 1 % on the market value of the property. To find out whether there is any subsisting encumbrance over the property, you can obtain encumbrance certificate from the registrar office concerned.
