Society secretary resignation

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 17 March 2024 This query is : Resolved
I have resigned as a secretary from my society due to hectic work schedule. I was appointed as a secretary from Nov'23. However now my society chairman and other members are saying I can't resign for two years as they have checked with some officers. How should I handle this situation as I am not able manage my work pressure and society work.

You raise your problem in the Executive/Governing body. If they do not agree, call for a General Body meeting and in the meeting you tell them that you will resign from the post and request to elect another one.

This is a honorary post hence if the person holding this post expresses his unwillingness to continue with this post citing personal or any other reason, he cannot be forced by anyone including law to continue for the entire tenure.
You can put down your papers and handover your responsibilities to the president or joint secretary and get relieved without waiting for their approval.
