Will it create problem in my goal to become an ias officer?

(Querist) 15 January 2025 This query is : Resolved
I had taken some unsecured personal loans from online apps. I lost some of my loans to online fraud and the rest I used to sponsor my education. I am a student and I don't have money to repay the loan amount. I paid some amount from my savings but now I don't have anything left. If I deny to make further payments will there be an FIR filed against me and will it create any problem in achieving my goal? Please help me and what will happen if there is any civil case filed against me due to this problem?

You have to clear the dues, lest any civil action will reflect in the verification after selection.

The FIR or a criminal case pending against your name may be a hurdle on the way to your aspiration to become an IAS officer hence take proper precautionary steps to not to get involved in any such criminal cases.

It is not a crime to borrow money from such money-lendor(s) where FIR may be registered.
However, even if some FIR is registered, contest it on merit, which will boost /improve your legal knowledge on the subject and you will be benefitted after getting in IAS cadre.

While agreeing with above views I will add:-

1. Hurdles in govt job for becoming IA/Judge is th same as in cae of appkying for the post or chaprasee.

2. civil suit is not at all a hurdle in Govt job.

3, once joined Govt service you shall keep your financial affairs in sch a manner that you cannot be dubbed in a sate of "habitual indebtedness", which is a misconduct while in service.

4. FIR /Criminal case in a of civil suit can only be there if a case of cheating /forgery/ misrepresentation / checque bounce etc is made out in financial transaction.

5. In loan matter there cannot be FIR. However if there is a civil suit against you in court and you loose and thereafter you do not make refund in that case there can be attachment of property and assets and even imprisonment.

Thank you experts for your valuable inputs. I want to ask one last question. The personal loan is unsecured and under 50 thousand from two apps separately. I had asked for moratorium but they said either you pay now or with all the interest and other fees summed up at later stage. I told them I don't have any money left and I am finding very difficulty even to meet my daily expenses. So, I completely said right now I can't give any money back and changed my sim, communication address and email id. Have I done right thing based on the current situation?

I know not paying back the loan amount is morally wrong but I don't have any other option.

You shall search for a private job for your maintenance and education and repay the loan at least some amount every month till the closure of the loan to avoid legal consequences.
