Amendment to Workmen Compensation Act,1923.

Dear all members,

In the proposed Workmen Compensation (amendment) Bill,2009, an  important existing word that is  "workman" in the WCA,1923 is going to be replaced by a more gender-equal word " employee" in order to be applicable to all kinds of emplyees. The WCA Bill which is on the anvil, seeks to providing an enhancement in the minimum rates of accident compensation from the exsisting Rs.80,000/- to Rs.1.20 lakh in case of death of an employee and from the existing Rs.90,000/- to Rs.1.40 lakh in case of permenet disability of an employee.
