NEW DELHI: History has been made in this year'scivil services' results. In a rare first, the top two candidates are women.

Topper S Divyadharshini is an alumnus of Dr Ambedkar Law University in Chennai. Sweta Mohanty, who did her B Tech in computer science from Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET), Hyderabad, has come second. The merit list boasts of five women candidates in the top 25.

R V Varun Kumar, a student of Chennai's Ragas Dental College, has topped among the male candidates. Overall, he came third.

Of the 547,698 candidates who appeared for the preliminary exam held in May 2010; 920 — 717 men and 203 women — made the grade. Now, they will be inducted in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) along with other Central services.

Candidates from engineering background seemed to enjoy a distinct edge in the Civil Services Examination, 2010, whose results were declared on Wednesday. Of the top 25, 15 had an engineering background, followed by medicine (five). Eight made the cut in their first attempt. Four, including topper Divyadharshini, made the cut in the second attempt. Nine, including the second and third in the merit list, got through in their third attempts.

There are 151 vacancies for IAS, IFS (35) and IPS (150). The result of two candidates has been withheld, and candidature of 39 candidates has been declared provisional. The consolidated reserve list includes 242 candidates.

Girls are only 5 in 25 Toppers list it is a 20% where it should be minimum 50%. It shows that our Indian society’s yet collective progress is 40% and it is 60% still backward.

Both the girls are from south zonal institutions. It is highlighted here that south zone is more progressive than the others.

The ratio of female population in south zone is better than the north. The reason is an open secret that the females are still being treated second citizen below graded than the males whereas the family and social culture is being maintained well by the females and ll the corrupt activities are headed and leaded by males.

These girls really deserves appreciation and congratulation since in a backward Indian society where the better half of the society is being kept away from education and freedom besides boys are being given top preferences in the family.
