My suggestion based upon personal experience:

Family Court law is very specialized. However, in India, any advocate will take any case asserting that he is good in that field, has won many case, bla.. bla.. bla.

You (or your friend, whoever is looking for an advocate in Family law) should go to the Family Court and inquire there.  You can ask clerks, Court staff, etc. Also, check the Bar room there. Most of those who practice there regularly have a sit assigned to them, implicitly. Then talk to clients of the advocates who may be there. See what they think about him/her. Do all this homework. Do not accept suggestion online. Just my two cents...

Also, get first-consultation for a fee from multiple advocates before finalizing one. 

I would just you to find the best lawyer he may or may not be a gujaratian.. Our main aim is to get divorce from the unwanted people or your can just go directly file a petition stating why he wanted a divorce.. even this would help him to find a lawyer there..
