Income from Cooking Classes would be shown as Professional Income and would be taxed under head Income from Business or Profession

This can not be a profession. As for business some necessary ingredients are required. Viz. A qulification, registration with the concerned Council as Bar Council, Medical Council etc. So only tution classes can not be said to be a Profession. On the other hand,'business' has to be a continuity of activities. for earning profits. Tutin classes may or may not be a continuous similar activities. So clearly, it may not be assessed as Income from business. But all the incomes have to be taxed unless and untill any income is expressly exempt under the provisions of I T Act. Also if any income is not included and computed under any other heading it has to be assessed under Income fro other Sources. Therefore if there is no contiuity of classes, the income therefrom shall be computed and taxed under Income from other Sources.

Of course it is not a profession if the person is not having any diploma or degree in hotel management or any like some but it can treated as business if it is run under a name as proprietary concern duly registered under state acts or in service tax. Even though it may be treated in Income from Business/profession if the classes are conducting in the name of the person. And if the same is run as hobby or demonstration purpose then it is Income from other source. ................
