Latest SC on inter-religious marriages

In a latest judgment titled as

Ashok Kumar Todi v/s Kishwar Jahan and others [Criminal Appeal No. 602 of 2011]

Hon'ble SC has given a following opinion on inter-caste and inter-religious marriages

A person has freedom and right to marry person of one's choice outside one's caste.....further held

i) if any boy or girl who is major undergoes inter-caste  or inter-religious marriage, their marital life should not be disturbed or harassed and if anyone gives such threat or commits acts of violence or instigates, it is the responsibility of the officers concerned to take stern action against such persons as provided by law.

ii) Police officers have no role in their conjugal affairs and the law enforcing authorities have no right to interfere with their married life and in fact they are duty bound to prevent others who interfere in their married life.

in the instant case the couple was killed and the HC was pleased to transfer the investigation to CBI, Hon'ble SC affirmed the orders passed by HC keeping in view the conduct of the police and CID.

in fact it is Rizwanur Rahman case of Kolkata.
