Delay in sattlement of mediclaim by insurer

My client was operated for heart problem and bills of Rs. 3 lac were submitted in the month of sep 2009 by him for reimbursement,but co./insurer(ICICI prudential)is not deciding this claim even after a period of five months and insurer has replied time and again that they are investigation the claim and awaiting for experts opinion,i want to know what is maximum period which is legally permissible to insurer for which they can
withheld/investigate and delayed my claim. thanks

Serve the Insurance company fortwith with a legal notice and approach the Insurance Obudsman if they don't act upon the notice.

3 months time from the date of submission of the claim is the appropriate period in the given case.

It has been held time and again by the various Consumer Fora that delay in settlement of insurance claim is itself a deficiency in services rendered by the company.

Issue notice to the co., to settle the claim within___days, if they replied or not replied file a consumer complaint. It amounts deficiency of service

Yes as said expert Mr.VADARALI draft and send legal notice your lawyer asking him them settle the claim within spsecified time. If then reply is received the file petition before Consumer Forum.
