Hello All,
My father, a retired central govt employee, has inherited agriculture land in Karnataka. I was born in Karnataka and have domicile here. I work in an IT company and want to buy some agricultural land in Karnataka.
Legally is this possible.
If not, what are the options I have.
What are the steps I need to take to ensure that the transaction is 100% clear.

Are you an NRI or residing in India? If you are residing in India, no restrictions, you can purchase the agricultural property anywhere in India.

Thanks for the quick response Mr Malipeddi ! I am not a NRI. I work in bangalore. I read somewhere that the law governing agriculture land purchase in Karnataka is very strict. Someone said that you can buy only if you already have some agricultural land in your name and your non agricultural income is less than 2 lakhs annually. I don't have any agricultural land in my name (my father has), and my non agricultural income is more than 2 lakhs annually. Hence I was worried in buying agricultural land. I don't want to spend my hard earned money now and get involved in legal issues later on. Thanks again !

in some states you have to be an agriculturist to buy agricultural land in your name . your name should be reflected in 7/12 extract .if you dont satisfy these requirements you may not be bale to buy agricultural land .
if karnataka has similar criteria you cannot buy such land in your name .consult a local lawyer

Certainly you are from agrl., family, so you can purchase the agrl, land in karnataka.

I agree with Mr. Ajay Sethi. In Karnataka the rule is that an agriculturist can buy agricultural land. The author has the correct information about the prevailing law in Karnataka. He cannot be suggested with wrong suggestions if the law is not permitting him to go ahead with the purchase of such property.
