There is no specific procedure for registration of proprietory concern, just you have to obtain VAT No. from the concerned Sales Tax Office and after in the firm you can open current a/c some times banks ask for the vat no.

It shall be better if you get registered your proprietorship firm under Shops and commercial Establishment Actand thereafter get opened the bank account, VAT registration etc. It shall definitely give a legal look to your firm though no registration is required as opined by rajoo.

If KYC norms are satisfied many banks do not insist registration of Sole Proprietor firms. Obtention of VAT and TIN has now become a very simplified procedure.
