Termination of service in the year of retirement of employee

Can a corporate body (limited MNC company) terminate an employee in the year of retirement when there is no fault on side of the employee. Any caselaw in the support of employee to fight this termination.

Is he a temporary employee? Did he receive any notice before termination? The company cannot terminate a permanent employee without any notice and without any reason.
