Forensic probe fails to identify culprit
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Forensic investigation has failed to solve the controversy related to the alteration of marks of two students in the ninth semester LLB examinations held by the Kerala University.
The forensic laboratory officials handed over the investigation report to the university officials here on Friday. Mark records, along with the handwritings of all the staff of the examination wing of the university, were handed over to the laboratory for examination following the controversy.
The report pointed out that the person who had made the alteration could not be identified since the corrections were made without writing any letters or words, but by correcting a numeral. In such circumstances, it is difficult to identify the person who had made the alteration, it said. The laboratory has also suggested the university to conduct further inquiry.
The issue began after alterations were found in the marks of the International Public Law paper of two ninth semester LLB students.
It was found that the corrections were made on the counterfoils sent from the centralised valuation camp before it was entered in the tabulation section of the university. There was suspicion on an assistant who was appointed to the university from the controversial list which had come up for scrutiny by both Lok Ayukta and the High Court. This was because the assistant had entered the office premises before office hours on the day on which the alterations were noticed.
The alteration was noticed while the marks were entered to the tabulation sheet. The mark list which had reached the office at 4 p.m. on a day was entered only on the next day. Following this, Controller of Examinations M T Sulekha had submitted a report to Vice-Chancellor A Jayakrishnan.
