Can a company fire you for not working extra hours and weekends?

My friend joined a company, with one of the primary reasons being the provision of weekends off and an annual leave of 20 days.

It seems that the company is understaffed for the amount of work they take up, leading to my friend being forced to work extra hours and weekends and being restricted from their annual leave.

What does the law say about this matter?

Thanking all in advance,
Bean

Your friend is free to resign with notice and take up any other  Govt job of 10 to 5  if he is not willing to work as per whims and fancies of a private employer. The law may impose such working hours for workmen and in the case of other white-collared employees, the prospects depend on sincerity, hard work, and dedication to the growth of the company depending on circumstances and fierce competition.

An employee has the right to paid public holidays and leaves such as casual leave, sick leave, privilege leave and other leaves. For every 240 days of work, an employee is entitled to 12 days of annual leave. An adult worker may avail one earned leave every 20 days whereas its 15 days for a young worker.

The terms and conditions of the allotment/service confirmation letter may have some bearing on the matter.
